Terraced house, South London

The roof at a glance

Hover over or tap a number to see each finding. Red needs attention, tan is routine upkeep, and green is noted for the record.

Top-down drone photo of a tiled terraced-house roof, with two chimney stacks on its left-hand party wall and a side return roof on its right

Only the surveyed roof is reported on. Neighbouring gardens are left out of the photo.

Findings in detail

Each close-up is cut from the same flight at full detail, so a roofer can see the problem before they climb a ladder.

  1. Close-up of a chimney stack from above: five pots upright and one leaning over at a steep angle, with cracked mortar around them
    01Needs attention

    Leaning chimney pot

Shared chimney stack on the party wall, towards the back of the house.

One of the six pots is leaning over at a steep angle, with a broken piece of clay beside its base. The mortar bed around the pots is cracked.

  2. Close-up of two lead-lined gutters either side of a brick party wall, with clumps of moss and debris at a joint
    02Routine upkeep

    Debris in the lead gutter

Lead-lined gutter beside the party wall.

Moss and loose debris have collected at a joint in the lead.

  3. Close-up of a tiled roof ridge with white and yellow lichen along it and across the slope to one side
    03Noted

    Lichen along the ridge

Main ridge and the slope to its right.

Heavy lichen growth along the ridge tiles and across the slope beside them.

  4. Close-up of a roof hip with a line of bright orange hip tiles and a patch of lighter replacement tiles beside it
    04Noted

Newer hip tiles and replaced tiles

Hip on the rear section of the roof.

The hip has bright, newer hip tiles, and a patch of the slope beside it has been re-tiled in a lighter tile: the signs of an earlier repair.

  5. Close-up of a chimney stack with four pots in a row, and a clump of moss lodged against the flashing beside it
    05Routine upkeep

    Debris at the rear chimney

Chimney stack on the rear section, where it meets the roof.

A clump of moss and debris is lodged against the flashing beside the stack.

  6. Close-up of a dark side return roof beside a tiled slope, with leaves and debris collected at one end
    06Routine upkeep

Leaves on the side return roof

Lower end of the side return roof.

Leaves and debris have collected at the lower end of the roof.

Also checked

Looked at closely, with nothing to flag.

  • The other shared chimney stack, at the front of the house: all six pots upright.
  • Chimney stack on the rear section: all four pots upright.
  • Pipe through the right-hand slope: flashing collar in place.

I can only photograph what's visible from the air, so this doesn't replace a roofer's hands-on inspection or a building survey.
